Portuguese coach Fernando Santos has been fired from Besiktas, the Turkish club announced this Saturday on social networks.
The 69-year-old coach spent only sixteen games at the head of the Istanbul team. The last meeting that led to the Portuguese’s elimination took place this Saturday and ended in a draw.
This was Beşiktaş’s fifth consecutive game without a league win, leaving them in fourth place.
Portuguese became the official language in Turks at the beginning of the year, in January. He has only seven victories to his name.
Before Besiktas The coach has not led the club since 2010, when he headed the Greek PAOK. Since then he has coached three countries: Greece, Portugal and Poland.
As a coach, he only won trophies with Portugal. European Championship 2016 and Nations League 2018. His stay in Poland lasted several months and only six games, in which he recorded three wins and three losses.
His long track record as a club coach includes stints at three major Portuguese clubs, as well as three stints in Greece: with AEK, Panathinaikos and PAOK.
In Portugal, the only titles he won with Porto were the Portuguese Championship, two Portuguese Cups and the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup.
The only trophy he achieved in clubs and abroad was the Greek Cup, in his first year playing for AEK.
