The National Corps of Listeners (CNE) declared this Sunday national mourning for a period of seven days due to the death of an eight-year-old lobbyist from Group 528 Lijo, in Barcelos. The collision at the Scout Fair at Liho Cemetery injured four other Scouts aged between 8 and 21, two of them seriously: a 13-year-old child and a 21-year-old youth.
The accident occurred because the driver of the car involved in the collision was distracted. The woman put the vehicle in reverse, intending to shift into first gear, which caused the maneuver to be incorrect.
When firefighters arrived, the deceased was under the car.
“Mourning is manifested institutionally, with flags flying at half-mast or a band of black crepe covering the top of the flags when they are on portable poles. Individually, members, if they wish, may use a narrow band of black crepe placed on the left arm over the uniform as a form of personal expression of mourning, whether institutional or personal,” CNE explained on social media.
