The draw of ballots for the 14 candidates in Madeira’s early legislative elections scheduled for May 26 took place on Tuesday at the Funchal court, leaving ADN in first place and JPP in last.
The application deadline passed on Monday and the Funchal court received 14 lists, corresponding to 13 parties running independently or in a coalition.
The National Democratic Alternative (ADN) is followed on the ballot by the Left Bloc (BE), Socialist Party (PS), Livre (L), Liberal Initiative (IL), React, Include, Recycle (RIR), CDU – Unitary Democratic the consignment. The election campaign will take place from May 12 to 24.
The events of May 26 occurred eight months after the last regional law was adopted, after the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, dissolved the Madeira parliament following a political crisis provoked in January, when the leader of the regional government (CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was named defendant in a process that is investigating suspicions of corruption.
Albuquerque subsequently resigned, leading to the leader’s downfall.
The previous regional elections took place on September 24, 2023, in which two coalitions competed – SDP/CDS-PP and CDU (PCP/PEV) – and 11 other parties: PTP, JPP, BE, PS, Chega, RIR, MPT, ADN. , PAN, Livre and Illinois.
In September, of the 253,877 voters registered for the election of deputies to the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (in a single circle), there were 135,446 voters (53.35%) and the abstention rate was 46.65%, according to official data. map with results published in Diário da República.
Of the 47 mandates allocated, the PSD/CDU-NP coalition received 23 deputies, the PS elected 11, the AKP five and Chega four, while the CDU, IL, PAN and BE elected one deputy each.
Among the voters, 131,776 valid votes (97.29%), 2,828 invalid votes (2.09%) and 842 blank votes (0.62%) were cast.
Among the eight candidates who could elect deputies, the PSD/CDU-PP Somos Madeira coalition had 58,394 votes (44.31%), the IPS 28,840 (21.89%), the PPP 14,933 (11.33%) and Chega 12,029 (9.13%). ).
With just one MP elected, the CDU received 3,677 votes (2.79%), 3,555 IL (2.70%), 3,046 PAN (2.31%) and 3,035 BE (2.30%).
The official map also shows that PTT recorded 1369 votes (1.04%), Livre 858 (0.65%), RIR 727 (0.55%), MPT 696 (0.53%) and ADN 617 (0.53%). 47%).
Following the results of the elections, the regional deputy elected from the PAN, Monica Freitas, and Miguel Albuquerque, who is also the leader of the PSD/Madeira, concluded an agreement on parliamentary influence on the legislature, which guaranteed the coalition an absolute majority.
