On Tuesday, FC Porto formalized the acquisition of 14 hectares of land in the municipality of Maia, Porto district, for the construction of a football academy, submitting a proposal worth 3.4 million euros.
The Dragons were the only ones who declared their intention to acquire the land in question, located in the cities of Nogueira and Silva Escura, in the Metropolitano Park, in a sealed letter at a public auction held in the municipality of Mayata.
SAD Porto was represented by President Pinto da Costa and Administrator Fernando Gomes, who were present at the opening of the offer, which was accompanied and signaled by a check for 680 thousand euros, corresponding to 20% of the total value of the offer.
The Maia Chamber’s proposal committee has confirmed all speculations regarding the intention to acquire the Porto football club, but the deal will only be finalized after it is soon ratified by the municipal executive, which must authorize the sale of the land.
After this step, Porto will have to pay another 15% of the total amount. [3,4 milhões de euros]and the remaining balance will be paid upon signing the sales contract.
Pinto do Costa, who insisted on being present at what he considered a “historic” moment, ensured that construction work on the new academy in Maia would begin this week or next.
“Work to clear the land is already underway, but given the presence of archaeologists, we thought we would start work this week to start construction,” said the president of FC Porto.
The director recalled that this process has been taking place over the past two years, but noted that “the dream has finally become a reality, giving rise to an academy that all Porto fans will be proud of.”
“From now on, there can be no doubt. Those who said that this project was a utopia and a stream of lies, now, if they have dignity, they will simply have to apologize for what they said,” Pinto da said. Costa.
The President of FC Porto spoke about the project, which “is of fundamental importance for the growth of the club’s teams,” specifying that the complex will have three football fields, a mini-stadium for two thousand people where official matches can be held, a cafeteria, a hotel and a clinic .
“This is a very important step, but despite the difficulties with space for our formation, we have managed to introduce players who are currently outstanding in our A and B teams. Our opponents have more advanced conditions, but from now on we will be able to accommodate 140 at a time athletes. Children and young people who want to play for Porto will have excellent conditions for studying, training and playing at our club,” he concluded.
These 14 hectares, acquired from Camara da Maya for the construction of the academy, join nine others that the club has already guaranteed, leaving the club with a complex totaling 23 hectares.
Pinto da Costa, who is serving his 15th consecutive term as president of FC Porto (a position he has held since 1982), is the leader of List A in the club’s next elections, competing with former club coach Andre Villas-Boas (list B). ) and Nuno Lobo (List C), defeated in the 2020 vote.
Elections to the governing bodies of FC Porto will take place on April 27 from 9:00 to 20:00 at the Dragao stadium in Porto.
