Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal said this Thursday that the war in Ukraine has so far caused damage to the country in the amount of 550 to 690 billion euros.
“According to the World Bank, as of June 1 last year, Russia caused damage and destruction to Ukraine in the amount of $350 billion. [320 mil milhões de euros] recover,” he said at a meeting in Kyiv with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“At the beginning of 2023, this amount may already amount to 600-750 billion dollars. [550-690 mil milhões de euros]”, he added, quoted by the Ukrinform news agency.
Denys Shmyhal said that the main source of funding for the restoration of Ukraine should be the withdrawn Russian funds, since Moscow must pay for the destruction it has caused.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine also announced that Kyiv has signed an agreement with the European Union (EU) to participate in the Single Market Program, a financing mechanism aimed at improving economic integration.
The goal of the program is to promote the transition to green and digital technologies and increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian companies.
Von der Leyen and other members of the European Commission traveled this Thursday to Kyiv, where a summit will take place on Friday between European Council President Charles Michel and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
