On Monday, soldiers of the Republican National Guard (GNR) and the Air Force rescued 56 migrants off Cabo Gata, southwest of Almeria, Spain, in an operation by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
The GNR statement said that following the first alert from a Portuguese Air Force C-295M reporting a small vessel with 15 people on board, all male, which was drifting southwest of Almeria in Spain, a coastal patrol boat (LPC) was called Bojador, and the migrants were rescued.
On the same day, after this first rescue, the Guardia Civil’s Integrated External Surveillance (SIVE) system detected another vessel and the LPC was called out again.
