Dubai was hit by heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving homes and cars underwater. The country recorded a record amount of rainfall: 254 mm fell in less than 24 hours on Tuesday. This is the highest value since records began in 1949.
According to ReutersThis Wednesday the rains subsided, but despite this, Emirates airline suspended check-in of passengers departing from Dubai Airport until midnight. Dubai International Airport also said it faced major disruptions after heavy rains delayed or diverted flights.
According to the same source, Emirates said passengers already in transit would continue to be processed, but warned that delays in departures and arrivals should be expected.
“We are making every effort to restore operations as quickly as possible in very difficult conditions,” the airport wrote on the social network X.
A 70-year-old man died after the car he was traveling in sank. Several houses were also damaged.
