The government said this Thursday that it followed a protest by citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan and India at the doors of the Agency for Migration and Asylum in Lisbon, who complained of delays in issuing residence permit cards.
In a statement that CM had access, the office of Presidential Minister António Leitan Amaru confirmed that “hundreds of thousands of cases involving migrant citizens are awaiting resolution and there are serious difficulties in the functioning of the control, inspection, reception and integration system.” The ministry also notes “the degradation of the migration situation, which has been worsening in the last few months, both from a humanistic point of view of the conditions for the reception and regularization of foreign citizens who intend to work and live on national territory, and from the point of view of the functioning of control and supervision.”
The current government blames the previous government for “mistakes in previous policy and institutional options and their implementation, particularly in relation to the process of abolishing the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) and the implementation of AIM.”
