The trend got worse and she was eventually taken to the hospital after her second dose. The woman was admitted to Medway Naval Hospital in Kent with severe dehydration. The doctor told the young woman’s family that another injection could have been fatal.
Shannon Flannery said that due to pain, nausea and lack of appetite, she barely ate anything for a week.
The drugs the young woman was prescribed were originally developed to treat diabetes, but are now widely used by people wanting to lose weight.
There have been at least 20 deaths linked to weight-loss injections in England over the past five years, according to official figures.
Medicines used in such situations contain semaglutide, the active ingredient in medicines such as Ozempic, which is intended for patients with type 2 diabetes.
