The Independent Union of Doctors (SIM) warned this Friday of irregularities in the payment of doctors by “several local medical institutions”, a situation that has been ongoing since January and has worsened this month, demanding “compliance with the law”.
In a statement sent to Lusa, SIM said it was aware that several local health units (ULS) “continue to improperly pay doctors”, adding that they had “repeatedly raised concerns about irregularities” since January.
According to the trade union structure, in April this year the situation worsened, among other things, “non-payment of basic salary in accordance with the wage agreement with SIM”, “non-payment of benefits to the new FSO”. [Unidades de Saúde Familiar] model B, provided for by the Law.”
The union also denounced the failure to pay full bonuses even after joining the regime, the “very significant reduction” in the salaries of doctors who worked in Model B until January 2024, and the “bureaucratic slow-motion maneuvers of the ULS to prevent doctors from maintaining full commitment.”
“Six months after agreeing with SIM, publishing the expansion of the Local Health Unit (ULS) organizational model, summarizing the USF Model B, endorsing full commitment, SIM believes this situation is intolerable and violates the legitimate expectations of physicians.”
SIM laments that “doctors are consistently treated differently depending on where they work,” emphasizing that “if (a few) ULSs can pay, then all of them should be able to.”
As such, he demands “upholding the law and properly remunerating doctors now.”
