“If you are not mine, then you are no one else’s.” It was with these words that 22-year-old Thiago Souto stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Joana Nascimento, in the neck while she was in her own car. The young woman managed to close the car window, preventing Thiago Soto from continuing to stab her, and fled in a car.
The crime occurred on June 15 last year in Lagoa. According to the prosecution, CM Upon access, the victim received two neck wounds and was hospitalized. She was discharged that same day, but on the 22nd she was readmitted to the Portimão Hospital with a serious infection as a result of her injuries. She was taken by helicopter to the intensive care unit of Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where she died on the night of the 23rd as a result of “post-traumatic abscess complicated by sepsis,” the autopsy report said. Thiago Souto is in custody on charges of attempted murder.
The trial will begin this Monday in the Portimão court.
