The Food and Economic Security Administration (ASAE) seized more than four tons of unfit for consumption meat products after executing search warrants, the agency said in a statement.
Thus, ASAE “through the Southern Regional Unit – Operational Unit Santarem – carried out at the end of last week the execution of four search warrants carried out in the framework of the fight against crimes related to secret murders and the sale of abnormal food products, spoiled or corrupt in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas- da Rainha,” he pointed out.
As a result of this action, “4,260 kg of meat products were seized, namely sheep carcasses, frozen lamb and frozen chicken, with an estimated value of 21,130.00 euros,” the organization reported.
In addition, as part of this action, “after examination, meat products were sent for destruction or for animal feed, according to the analysis.”
ASAE stressed that “it will continue to develop inspection activities within its competence throughout the country in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in ensuring food safety and public health of consumers.”
