The management of the Escola Secundária Pedro Nunes school in Lisbon has established dress codes for students. Anyone who does not do this risks being deprived of the opportunity to take exams for the 11th and 12th courses.
In an email sent to guardians, the school said that “students are required to wear appropriate attire to school. This means not taking beachwear with you, such as swimming trunks, flip-flops, shorts that are too short and shirts with too much cleavage. Including exams.” If the examination is not possible, appropriate clothing is recommended.”
The school’s internal regulations, in force until 2025, stipulate that students must “present themselves in clothing appropriate to their age, the dignity of the premises and the specific nature of the school activity.”
“Many girls walk around with almost something like a top that just covers their breasts, and with shorts below the waist. And it’s not suitable for classroom use. There are tops that only cover your breasts and little else. Feel comfortable, there are other students who may feel uncomfortable,” said school director Maria do Rosario Andorinha in a statement to Público, stressing that the Parents Association agrees with the warnings.
