António Tavares, candidate for the presidency of the Council of the General Assembly (MAG) of FC Porto from the list of André Villas-Boas, congratulated this Saturday the “very significant” turnout of Porto members in the elections to the governing bodies of the club.
“We already have a very significant number of members, which means that they are very attentive to the life of the club, they care and therefore participate. This is an initiative that should become a holiday that unites Porto fans and civil society. Therefore, despite some difficulties at the start, we hope that everything will go well,” said the candidate from List B.
Former PSD deputy in the Assembly of the Republic from 1985 to 1991, current organizer of the Santa Casa da Misericordia do Porto, showed no doubt that the record of participation in electoral actions of the Blues and Whites is a mark that remains to be surpassed , stands at 10,731 members in 1988.
“I have no doubt about it. The participation at the moment is extremely high and therefore it is a great mobilization of the Porto fans,” he said.
Regarding the delay in opening the doors by about half an hour, António Tavares did not want to detail the specific reasons, blaming the responsibility on unspecified “administrative and bureaucratic” problems, but was satisfied with their solution.
“I did not want to stir up any controversy at this stage of the day. I can say that these were incidents that arose as a result of some administrative and bureaucratic misunderstandings that were resolved, and List B contributed to this resolution. In other words, we were not an obstacle,” he explained.
Finally, List B, led by former Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas, expressed his desire for the results to be known as soon as possible.
“I will follow the election day here, I am also a representative of List B, standing next to Dr. Lourenço Pinto to help constructively, so that before midnight the Porto fans can know the results at home, with peace of mind,” said He.
In the elections to the governing bodies of FC Porto for the four-year period 2024–2028. There are three candidates, led by Pinto da Costa (list A), Andre Villas-Boas (B), a former coach of the football team, and Nuno Lobo. (C), businessman and professor, also included in the independent list of the Supreme Council headed by Miguel Bras da Cunha (D).
