Striker Victor Dieuqueres is a doubt for Sporting’s visit to Porto of the Portuguese First Football League, Lions coach Ruben Amorim announced this Saturday in the preview of the match of the 31st round.
“Mateus Reis is out of shape, Antonio. [Adán] Victor doesn’t fit either [Gyökeres] There is a problem there, he will be called up, but he is still questionable for the game,” said Amorim, without specifying the details of the Swedish footballer’s illness.
Victor Dieuqueres is Sporting’s top scorer this season with 41 goals scored in 51 matches and leads the league’s top scorers with 24 goals, one of which against Porto in the first round match, which the Lions won 2– 0 in the 14th round.
Regardless of the striker’s availability, Ruben Amorim recalled that Sunday’s match will be played “in a completely different context” compared to the previous one, when both teams entered the field with the same points at the top of the table.
On Sunday, Sporting take to the Estádio do Dragao pitch isolated at the top of the I League, with 18 points more than the Dragons, who remain in third place, but the Green-Whites coach ensured that the classification is “not reflects” the difference between the two teams.
“Sometimes with defeats there are draws [em jogos] where we dominate, we begin to create a gap, and teams that are used to winning find it much more difficult to reverse such situations. So I don’t think it even remotely reflects the quality of the teams,” Amorim commented.
In addition, the coach recalled, the classic between Sporting and Porto “is always of great importance, “regardless of the classification,” and Amorim knows what awaits his team when they visit the Estadio Dragau.
“This will be the most difficult game of the championship. We know what kind of club it is, we know its coach. [Sérgio Conceição], the pride he has and the pride of his players. They are not in the fight, but we, we want to win, and we still need to get six points to become champions. We want to do this as quickly as possible, and this is our goal,” said the Leonina coach.
Sporting will visit Porto on Sunday in the 31st round of the Portuguese Football League, which is scheduled to kick off at 20:30 at the Dragao Stadium in Porto, and will be refereed by Nuno Almeida (Algarve).
The team led by Ruben Amorim leads the league with 80 points, seven points more than Benfica, and could become champions if they beat Porto if Benfica lose to Sporting Braga at the stadium this Saturday Estádio da Luz.
Porto remain in third place with 62 points, the same as Braga, and both teams depend on the success of Minho’s side in Luz to maintain a mathematical chance of still reaching second place.
