The Angolan President arrived in South Korea this Sunday for a two-day official visit, during which agreements will be signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the press service of the Angolan Presidency reports.
The itinerary for João Lourenço’s visit, which begins on Monday, includes “conversations with Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, the signing of agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation and a courtesy meeting with National Assembly President Kim Jin-pyo.” , says the press release.
João Lourenço, accompanied by Foreign Minister Tete António and Minister of State for Economic Coordination, will also attend the economic forum.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that Angola and South Korea maintain “excellent, mutually beneficial relations” and “consult regularly on domestic and international issues of mutual interest.”
Exports are one of the main vectors of economic growth in the country, with a focus on telecommunications equipment, semiconductors, computers, automobiles, steel and ships, with major destinations in China, the US and Japan.
South Korea and Angola established diplomatic relations in 1992, highlighting the activities of South Korean companies in the Angolan market in the shipbuilding, automotive, agricultural machinery, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy sectors, according to the Korean Embassy website.
