This Sunday, leaders Sporting moved five points clear of their 20th Portuguese football title with a 2-2 draw with Porto, completing Victor Gyokeres’ double in the 31st round of the I League season.
The Swede, the tournament’s leading scorer, came on at half-time and scored in the 87th and 88th minutes, marking his 18th consecutive game without defeat (16 wins and two draws) after Evanilson (7) and Pepe (7). They scored 41 goals for the Dragons a day after Andre Villas-Boas replaced Pinto da Costo as Porto president.
With three rounds to go, Sporting, who had won eight in a row and finished with 10 due to Marcus Edwards being sent off (90′), had 81 points to Benfica’s 76 as Porto isolated themselves in third place. with 63 points.
Upon his arrival at the stadium, Andre Villas-Boas was greeted with applause. Porto’s new president sat in the seat he usually occupies as a fan.
Moments before the match, the crowd looked at the presidential stand and applauded Pinto da Costa.
