Carlos Moedas blames PS for the municipality’s negative result in 2023

The President of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, this Wednesday accused the Socialist Party of being responsible for the negative net result of the municipality, for blocking the purchase and sale of assets, a tool that was previously always available.

“This was the year in which we had the highest budget execution. What does it mean? This means that what was promised was spent and that the investment was made. And this is the first time. On the sidelines of a visit to the Buenos Aires book fair (of which Lisbon is a guest city), the mayor reacted to the news that Lisbon City Council ended 2023 with a negative net result of €18.59 million.

“Those who say the net result was lower must ask why this happened. This is because the Socialist Party (PS) from the very beginning is blocking an important tool for the President of the Chamber, which is to make purchases and sell off assets,” said the mayor.

Carlos Moedas said blocking any purchase or sale of assets affects the chamber’s management balance sheet.

“This constant blockade by the PS of the leadership of the chamber has such an effect. The PS must justify why it does not allow the president of the chamber to have the tool that all previous presidents had, namely normal buying and selling.” heritage tool. When asked about the resignation of Pedro Costa as president of the parish council of Campo de Ourique and the statements he made at the municipal meeting, according to which the council was doing “as little as possible” and demonstrating an “unpreparedness to solve the problems of the city,” Carlos Moedas limited himself to answering that Pedro Costa must justify himself to those who elected him.

“Chairmen of parish councils are elected by the people, and those who resign must justify themselves to the people. It is to them that they must justify why they resigned,” he said, adding that he had already spoken with Hugo Vieira. da Silva, who will replace Pedro Costa in this position.
