Elite prison guards have been monitoring prisoners in civilian hospitals for 10 days

Members of the Prison Service Intervention Team (GISP), an elite unit of the prison service, monitored two prisoners from Monsanto maximum security prison in Lisbon in civilian hospitals for 10 days. This was reported by the National Union of Prison Guards. CM that the Caxias prison hospital refuses to admit two patients, a situation that, according to the structure, is being repeated.

The prison service does not comment on the situation, saying only that the hospitalization of patients in the prison hospital is due to medical criteria.

This Friday, another Monsanto inmate swallowed batteries. According to Frederico Morais, he was again denied treatment at the Cacchias prison hospital. He ended up having to be admitted to San Francisco Xavier Hospital, where two GISP members are also staying.

This was reported by the Union of Prison Wardens. CM that “it is unfortunate that we are once again faced with a lack of solutions in the prison hospital, as you doctors should be concerned that prisoners are taking up space that should be reserved for citizens who have no other solution.”
