Porto reached the final of the Copa Hugo dos Santos in basketball

FC Porto became the first finalist of the XV Hugo dos Santos Cup for men’s basketball after defeating Oliveirense this Saturday with a score of 71-62 in the match at the Multiusos de Gondomar stadium.

The match was a merry-go-round in terms of scoring, with the lead alternating, and Porto decided the game in their favor in the fourth and final period, in which they scored 24 points while Oliveirense scored half.

Oliveirense got off to a good start in this game, which allowed them to take a six-point lead (8-2), which led to Porto coach Fernando Sá calling for a “time out” midway through the first quarter.

Anthony Barber closed the distance with a treble, but Oliveira de Azemeis’ side remained united and, led by starter Wesley Washpun, remained at the top of the scoreboard.

Two free throws by Barber turned the game in favor of the Dragons, but Oliveirense had the last word and still managed to score two points and win the quarter (13-12).

Porto responded in the second period with aggressive defense and greater offensive efficiency, with Miguel Queiroz leading the way with six points to his name.

Oliveirense managed to take the lead (19-16), but always had strong opposition from Porto and this paid off as the team led by Fernando Sa managed to go into the break winning (32-25).

The second half was tight and very competitive, and Oliveirense began to take control, capitalizing on the offensive success of Darius Carter and Justin Gordon and their superior defensive rebounding (11 to just three for the Dragons).

Oliveirense scored 25 points in the third period to emerge victorious in the final quarter (50-47), but Porto’s response in the final ten minutes was strong and decisive for the final result.

Barber, Omlid and Kloof took the reins for Porto and all three scored 16 of the 24 points that Fernando Sa’s side scored during the period, double Oliveirense’s total.

It was therefore in this final period that Porto managed to distance themselves from Oliveirense and gradually build up a points lead that guaranteed them a hard-fought victory against a fierce opponent and that only disappeared after Barber equalized with a free goal. throw (55-55).

Yes, from then on, Porto managed a partial 8-0 run and overtook Oliveirense, winning 71-62 and thus guaranteeing their presence at the end of this competition, scheduled for 16:30, in the same hall
