Today in Parliament the words of the former Secretary of State and former Santa Casa officials were heard

This Wednesday, the former Secretary of State for Internationalization Eurico Brillante Díaz, the former provider of the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisbon (SCML) Edmundo Martinho and other former officials of this institution will be heard in Parliament.

The hearing was requested by the Liberal Initiative and Chega to discuss the financial position of the institution and the business of internationalizing social games following the dismissal of SCML provider Ana Jorge.

In the morning, the Committee on Labour, Social Security and Integration will hear from Ana’s predecessor Jorge Edmundo Martinho and former SCML Deputy Ombudsman Ana Vitória Azevedo, who resigned in March.

After the plenary session, the Committee on Labour, Social Security and Integration meets again to hear former Santa Casa Global administrator Ricardo Gonçalves and former Secretary of State for Internationalization Eurico Brillante Díaz, currently a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic and chairman of the commission.

The former administrator of Santa Casa Global, Francisco Pessoa e Costa, will also hear on Thursday.

Requests for an urgent hearing arose following the dismissal of SCML provider Ana Jorge and all members of the commission on April 30, so that the financial position of the institution and the impact of investments on the internationalization of games could be clarified.

Hearings were also approved for the current Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security Maria do Rosario Ramalho, her predecessor Ana Mendes Godinho and the rehabilitated nurse of the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa Ana Jorge.

The government dismissed the ombudsman and members of the panel with immediate effect and justified the decision as “grossly negligent actions” that affected the management of the institution.

Subsequently, in a letter sent to all employees, Ana Jorge accused the government of dismissing her in a “rude, arrogant and slanderous manner” and of being caught off guard.

Ana Jorge took office on May 2, 2023, chosen by the previous socialist government of António Costa, and inherited an institution in serious financial difficulties after years of the pandemic and the process of internationalization of social games carried out by the administration of the provider Edmundo. Martinho, which could have caused losses of around 50 million euros.
