The Lisbon Chamber salutes Sporting for winning the football title

The Lisbon City Council (CML) unanimously approved congratulations to Sporting for winning Portuguese football in the 2023/24 season, as well as to the fans for the way they celebrated the victory in the city, the Lisbon Municipality announced this Thursday.

“An institution with a very rich history, which brings together unforgettable moments and makes sporting eclecticism its main banner. The 2023/24 sporting season marks another high point in this history, the result of the practical implementation of the motto that appears in the Club Register,” said a CML statement dated Wednesday.

The municipality saluted “all the athletes, technical team, support staff and directors who became national champions,” as well as “the members and fans of Sporting Lisbon, who supported and celebrated their club’s victory, with civic behavior worthy of positive praise.” »

The CML stressed that Sporting “is one of the most important institutions” in the Portuguese capital, “an example of service through sport to the country and in particular to the city,” given that the Alvalade club is “a privilege for Lisbon.”

Sporting became Portuguese champions for the 20th time on Sunday, taking advantage of Benfica’s 2-0 defeat to Famalicao in the 32nd round of the I League to win the title.

The result saw Sporting, who beat Portimonense 3-0 at home on Saturday, re-clinch the title after last in 2020/21, adding 84 points, eight more than Benfica, who could only win six in the last match. two rounds.
