South African government rescues eight Mozambican minors from Chinese factory in Johannesburg

At least eight Mozambican boys aged between 13 and 17 have been rescued from a Chinese electricity plant in the small mining town of Nigel, southeast of Johannesburg, it was announced this Thursday.

A spokesman for the Department of Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment in the Gauteng provincial government, where Johannesburg is located, said South African police discovered the young Mozambicans during a Department of Labor and Employment inspection of the factory premises in the south-east. economic capital of South Africa.

The youths were then taken to the Mary Moodley Child and Youth Care Center in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, where they await repatriation to Mozambique, spokesman Themba Gadebe said.
