Early on Thursday, the Air Force transported two more newborns and a critical patient from Ponta Delgada (Azores) to Lisbon, continuing to provide emergency care following Saturday’s fire at Divino Espirito Santo Hospital (Ponte Delgada). She also transported a Red Cross medical post to San Miguel Island. For assembly, there were 2340 kg of material and seven technicians on board. Both transportations were carried out on S-295M aircraft.

The newborns landed at Transit Airfield No. 1 in Portela at 3:50 am. They were then taken by ambulance to hospital departments. On board the plane were a military nurse from the Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation Center, as well as two civilian medical teams, one to care for infants and the other to care for critically ill patients.

Since Sunday, the Air Force has been carrying out several missions to transport patients and hospital equipment following a fire that broke out at the Divino Espirito Santo hospital.

To date, the Air Force has transported 13 personnel to five different missions. The first occurred on Sunday, when three patients were taken to the island of Terceira. On the same day, a Falcon 50 carried three patients, including two pregnant women, to the island of Madeira; During the night, the C-295M took off again to transport two more patients to Terceira Island.

On Tuesday, the Air Force requested a new transport mission, this time transporting two newborn babies on a C-130H from Ponta Delgada to Lisbon.
