The French MotoGP Grand Prix, the fifth race of the motorcycle world championship, broke attendance records over the weekend with a total of 297,471 fans at Le Mans, organizers said this Monday.
The previous high was also set in France in 2023, when the circuit welcomed 278,805 spectators to celebrate its 1,000th Grand Prix.
“Almost 300,000 people over the weekend is absolutely incredible and a testament to world-class operations. This event is exactly what we want: amazing racing on a packed track combined with a full schedule of events and entertainment to make every minute special. weekend for all fans,” emphasized Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, the holder of the MotoGP rights.
He said the atmosphere at Le Mans is “legendary, and rightfully so,” and “the incredible roar of the crowd is one of the purest expressions of passion for the sport in the world, and it’s an honor to hear it.”
Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) withdrew from Sunday’s race due to mechanical problems.
The French Grand Prix was won by Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati), who consolidated the lead in the championship with 129 points against 91 for Banaia and 89 for Marquez and Enea Bastianini (Ducati), while Miguel Oliveira is 14th with 23 points.
