The parliamentary foreign affairs committee will hear from the head of Portuguese diplomacy on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the government’s ceasefire initiatives in a hearing requested by the PCP and BE and unanimously approved on Tuesday.
“The Portuguese government must take all possible diplomatic initiatives to stop the genocide of the Palestinian people. Therefore, it must, within the framework of the United Nations, the European Union, the Council of Europe and all other international institutions, in which it participates not only in condemning war crimes, but also actively contributes to the achievement of peace and an immediate end to the massacre of the population of Gaza,” the Bloc’s request says de Esquerda (BE), who demands an “urgent” hearing of Paulo Rangel.
The PCP stresses “the urgent need to mobilize the international community to demand an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian assistance to the population and the achievement of peace within the framework of United Nations resolutions”, demanding the presence of the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs in Parliament to “give an explanation of the position of the Portuguese government and its actions on international level in this process.”
