The Supreme Court elects a new president today

This Wednesday, the Supreme Court (STJ) selects the successor to Councilor Enrique Araújo as President, with five candidates for the position, including two current vice-presidents and the former vice-president of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (SCM). .

José Souza Lameira, former vice-president of the SCM and who, as such, was Enrique Araújo’s number two in this body for the management and discipline of judges, was the first advisor of the STJ to present himself as a candidate for the presidency of the high court in elections between the couples planned for this Wednesday.

Also vying for the post of fourth person of the state are STJ Vice President Graça Amaral, who already worked as an adviser in this court, adviser Leonor Furtado, who was already director general for social reintegration, and Vice President President Nuno Gonçalves, a native of the prosecutor’s office, where he worked before 2019, and Councilor João Cura Mariano, who officially announced his candidacy a week before the elections.

This Wednesday, the advisory judges will elect a successor to Enrique Araujo, who leaves the post of STJ president due to reaching the age limit of 70 years.

The President of STJ is also, by virtue of his duties, the President of CSM.
