The Spanish Football League announced on Monday that it had opened an investigation following new racist comments against Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior during Sunday’s game against Mallorca.
“Once again unbearable racist insults have been leveled at Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior,” the league said in a statement, ensuring he is working with Mallorca, who received and beat meringue 1-0. to identify the perpetrators, to initiate a criminal case”.
La Liga has set up an email address ([email protected]) through which spectators can exchange information to identify the perpetrators of insults against a player on Sunday.
Footage of Sunday’s game broadcast by the Spanish channel DAZN shows insults to the Brazilian player, who is called a monkey.
In recent months, 22-year-old Vinicius has been the target of several racist insults, and at the end of January, the player became the protagonist of an episode in which the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) sent a letter to the organizations that football (FIFA, UEFA and CONMEBOL), specific penalties for racist behavior and raising awareness of the issue.
On January 26, a doll in the player’s T-shirt was hung on the Madrid bridge ahead of the derby against Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, in which the Meringues won 3-1.
Atlético de Madrid and the Spanish League have condemned the acts of hatred and intimidation against the Brazilian footballer and have asked the authorities to investigate the matter.
