Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp will vote to abolish video refereeing (VAR) technology in the English Football League, the agency reported this Friday. Reuters.
English football’s 20 top-flight clubs will discuss a resolution tabled by Wolves at next month’s General Assembly, citing “The negative consequences of VAR are detrimental to the relationship between fans and sport.”
At a press conference before hosting Wolverhampton, the Liverpool manager blamed not technology, but those who control it. “They vote against the way it is used, which is definitely not good. The way they use it, I would vote against it because these people are not capable of using it properly,” said Jurgen Klopp.
The English Football League introduced VAR in 2019 to help on-field referees make important and off-field decisions. “I don’t think VAR is a problem. It’s how they use it. You can’t change people. It is clear that they need them. So yes, I would vote for the abolition of VAR,” concluded the German coach.
