Boavista and Estrela da Amadora guaranteed their stay in the I League this Saturday, in the last round. Portimonense will have to face a playoff against ABC or Maritimo, who will play today starting at 11am, to determine 3rd place in Liga II.
The Algarve side were virtually guaranteed to save at the end of the game against Farense, which they won 1-3 at the San Luis Stadium. But on the other side of the country, at the Bessa stadium, when almost no one believed. Boavistas managed to do this from the penalty spot, win back a point in the game with Visela (2-2) with a score of 90+11 and “steal” Portimonense’s stay. With a responsibility the size of the world, Reizinho converted the penalty and sent the Algarve team into the knockout stages.
But some calculations had to be done to figure out who finished 15th to ensure consistency. Both Boavista and Portimonense had the same number of points (32), and in direct confrontation they also had equal results (4-1). It must have been clear from the goal difference who was in 16th place, which dictated entry into the playoffs. Interestingly, both teams scored 39 goals. The Algarve team conceded 72 goals to the chess team’s 62, giving them cause for celebration.
Also participating in this fight, E. Amadora ensured his retention by defeating Gil Vicente in Reboleira with a score of 1–0.
