PS classifies as “deplorable” the position of the SDP and CDS-PP in presenting the proposed change to the IRS, which the socialists say continues to be financially unfair and does not benefit the middle class.
The Socialists’ position is contained in a statement from the relevant parliamentary group, in which they believe that the process of parliamentary dialogue that has been “ongoing” around various proposals to cut the IRS has been “interrupted by the SDP” with its latest proposal, which has now been submitted to the Committee on Budget, Finance and Public Administration. management.
“For the PS, the position of the PSD and the SDS-PP is regrettable that, contrary to the good will of the Commission, which allowed the dialogue to continue also on the law proposed by the government, the discussion period for which has already ended, the proposal now formally represents the final version in the Commission, requiring parliamentary groups to sign it, although it is still financially unfair and does not benefit the middle class,” the PS parliamentary group said in a statement.
This is a proposed change to the PSD that reduces the rate for Tiers 3 and 4 by a further 0.5 percentage points (PP) compared to what was included in the original proposal that the Government sent to Parliament and which it sent to committee without voting in general.
In this new text, the Social Democrats also propose to reduce the rate for the 6th group by 2 percentage points – p.p. (the government defended 3 pp), maintaining the executive-recommended rate cuts applicable to group 7. . and 8th levels.
However, for PS, the continued rate cuts for these two highest income groups mean that the text presented by PSD continues to be “financially unfair” as it “continues to favor the 10% of families who earn more by choosing to cut rates on the 7th and 8th grade, without any impact on the middle class, rather than locking in rate increases in the lower groups and thus allowing fiscal margins to be spread across more families and especially the middle class. class families.”
PS also remember that when rates for the lowest brackets are reduced, everyone with higher incomes benefits due to the progressive nature of the IRS.
Faced with this scenario, the Socialists say they will continue to work on their project and on other projects still being discussed in the specialty, keeping in mind that the deadline for submitting amendment proposals ends on May 31, ensuring that their goal of “There will always be justice” and progressively lower job income taxes for the greatest number of families.”
The marginal rate currently in effect for income tax bands 6, 7 and 8 is 35%, 43.5% and 45%, respectively. The proposed PSD change indicates rates in the same order: 35%, 43% and 44.75%.
