French shooter Isaora Thibus has been cleared by the International Fencing Federation’s (FIE) anti-doping subcommittee, which opens the door to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, following a provisional suspension.
Thibus was provisionally suspended on February 8 after anti-doping controls revealed the presence of an anabolic steroid, but the FIE accepted the 2022 individual world foil champion’s argument that he was “contaminated with bodily fluids” through his partner.
“I was not negligent. I always wanted to win, but correctly and in accordance with my values. It is important that my integrity is recognized. Even physically, these months have been very grueling,” Tibus, 32, told AFP. .
The leader of the French foil team, who finished second at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, is a strong candidate for an individual medal at Paris 2024, despite losing the individual title to Italy’s Alice Volpi at the 2023 World Championships.
