The Turkish press is reporting this morning that Ghanaian Christian Atsu, a former Porto player who now represents Hatayspor, is among the missing after the massive earthquake that hit Turkey last morning.
According to Fanatic, under the rubble of the place where the Hatayspor team was supposed to be, there are also sports director Taner Savut, football player Onur Ergun and club translator Emre Aslan.
Yesterday Hatayspor faced Kasimpasa and won 1-0, scoring a 90+7 goal that 33-year-old Atsu accurately scored.
Atsu arrived at FC Porto in 2019 in the under-19 dragon team. He played in the first team and, after a loan spell at Rio Ava, moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2013.
A series of loans followed (Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga and Newcast) which resulted in him signing a permanent contract with Newcastle in 2017.
In 2021, he moved to Al Raed from Saudi Arabia before moving to Hatayspor last summer.
Federation postpones games
Meanwhile, the Turkish Football Federation released a statement explaining the postponement of games scheduled for this Wednesday to a date to be determined.
