The Portuguese Embassy in Ankara creates a WhatsApp group for emergencies after the earthquake in Turkey

The Portuguese Embassy in Ankara has set up a WhatsApp group for Portuguese citizens in the country that they can use in any emergency and has asked the people of the country to follow the civil protection recommendations.

In a message posted on the Diplomatic Portal, the Embassy indicates that a WhatsApp group Sismo na Turkey – the Embassy of Portugal in Ankara has been created, which citizens can join at the link https://chat.whatsapp.com/FwkimJbeIWEHaX7hz7n3EF.

“In the event of an emergency, you can contact the Portuguese Embassy in Ankara on the mobile number +90 532 605 13 57, available 24 hours a day and also accessible via WhatsApp,” reads the information provided by the Portuguese Embassy. inserted on the “site” from the Diplomatic Portal.

The embassy also advises citizens in Turkey to remain calm, not to travel to difficult areas and to obey the instructions of the country’s civil protection.

More than 4,300 people have been killed and at least 19,000 injured in Turkey and Syria in two earthquakes, one of which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, registered on Monday.

The earthquakes also caused the collapse of more than 5,600 buildings in Turkey. Rescue teams continued to search for survivors under the rubble this morning, with work limited due to rain, snow and falling temperatures.

At least 2,921 people have died in 10 provinces in Turkey, with about 16,000 injured, the Turkish Disaster Management Agency said this morning.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the death toll in government-controlled areas of Syria has risen to 656 people, with about 1,400 injured.

In rebel-held northwestern Syria, at least 700 people have died and about 2,000 have been injured, according to a White Helmets rescue team.

Dozens of countries have already announced they will send aid, personnel and equipment to help with the rescue effort.

The earthquake occurred 33 km from the provincial capital of Gaziantep, in southeastern Turkey, near the border with Syria, at a depth of 17.9 km.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was recorded with a magnitude of 7.8, dozens of aftershocks were felt, one of which was a magnitude of at least 7.6.
