Spanish footballer Alvaro Carreras has signed a permanent contract with Benfica for five seasons, until 2029, the Lisbon club announced this Sunday, activating the possibility of buying the left-back.
Carreras, 21, was loaned to Benfica by Manchester United in January in the winter market after being loaned to Granada in the first half of the season, with Luz having an option to buy for about six million euros.
Sport Lisbon and Benfica have exercised the Manchester United purchase option included in the agreement reached with the English club in January to permanently acquire Alvaro Carreras. Meanwhile, the left-back has signed a contract that commits him to the club for five years, until 2029,” Benfica said.
The Spanish defender joined Luz in January with the aim of filling the team’s shortcomings at left back and, following Jurasek’s departure, signed a €14 million deal that was rarely an option for German coach Roger Schmidt.
Carreras was also not an option for the German coach, who almost always preferred to adapt midfielder Fredrik Orsnes, as the Spanish defender had played 16 games since January but started only seven.
