About two dozen fans greeted Porto with euphoria this Monday at the Dragao stadium, which won the Portuguese Cup on Sunday after beating Sporting 2-1 in extra time.
The bus with the Porto team arrived at the stadium only at 5:20 in the morning, but the most persistent fans insisted on their presence.
After long hours of waiting – many began to gather outside the stadium shortly after the final whistle of the game, at 8 pm – the Porto delegation, players and technical team were greeted with songs, applause and many words of encouragement.
Coach Sergio Conceicao, whose future is uncertain and has already mentioned that he will announce this week whether he will continue to lead the Dragons, was also the target of these words of support. Many fans asked the coach, who is now finishing his seventh season at Porto, to continue playing.
Before arriving in Dragao, the Porto made two stops during the trip between Lisbon and Porto. The group’s first stop was to visit the Fatima Shrine and then stopped once again at Mealhad for dinner.
The team met with former President Pinto da Costa over dinner and only left the area around 4:30 am before heading to the Dragao Stadium.
