Lisbon parties cost 1.2 million euros

Today, people’s marches and festivals begin in Lisbon and will last throughout June. The budget is about 1.2 million (the same as last year). As with previous editions, the amount in question is essentially covered by sponsors.

The municipality reserves 930 thousand euros to support popular marches. For each of the 22 people present, 30 thousand euros were allocated, for a total of 660 thousand euros, plus another 270 thousand euros in emergency support (10 thousand for each of the 27 organizing organizations). This exceptional support for the marching communities, approved unanimously, is justified by “addressing the current difficulties they face in their activities.” The municipality emphasizes the importance of communities as “drivers of public participation” in Lisbon and considers support “fundamental.”

The marches are presented to the public for the first time today at the Meo Arena, ahead of the traditional parade on the night of June 12-13 on Liberdade Avenue.

There is also support for festivals. Each of the 15 organizational groups receives 4 thousand euros, a total of 60 thousand euros. For the municipality, the role of the groups that organize the festivals “is decisive in these celebrations, typical of the Lisbon tradition, since they are the driving force for the social and economic activities of the various entities associated with the life of the historical quarters of the city.”
