Mohamed Camara, a Monaco player, was suspended for four games by the French Football League for hiding an anti-homophobia logo on his shirt on the final day of the French championship.
Most notably, Malian player Kamara put tape on the logo, a gesture that will be sanctioned by defeat in the first four games of next Ligue 1 season.
Camara, who was heard by the French League Disciplinary Commission via videoconference, rejected all proposals for educational campaigns against homophobia that could reduce the punishment.
Thiago Scuro, director general of Monaco, admitted that he had already expected such a decision, which would not be appealed. Scuro confirmed that the club does not agree with Kamara’s actions, apologizing to the league, and also admitting the possibility of internal sanctions.
