Carris announces overtime strike from June 3 to 22

Carris workers will go on an overtime strike from June 3 to June 22, demanding higher wages and food benefits, as well as a gradual reduction in working hours to 35 hours a week.

“The reasons are mainly related to the real increase in wages, that the workers approved the proposal for a real increase in wages by 100 euros, the administration wants to remain only at the level of 70 euros,” Manuel Leal, director of the Union of Road Workers. and Urban Transport Workers in Portugal (STRUP/Fectrans).

The workers also demand an increase in the food allowance to 15 euros per day, “taking into account the growth that has occurred at all levels, both in restaurants and in cafeterias of the company,” which operates in the Lisbon district and is controlled by the Lisbon Municipal Chamber.

On the other hand, according to the union leader, they presented a “demand for the development, albeit gradually, of up to 35 hours a week” of work, in addition to other issues specific to road workers.

Carris workers currently work an average of 40 hours per week.

Manuel Leal also explained that the strike would require workers to continue their careers until they surrender and, even if they are not replaced, to immediately return to their jobs, which could result in some careers not taking place.
