Water supply in the parishes of Benavente and Zamora Correia has returned to normal after an accident that left the entire water supply system in Vale Tripeiro in Benavente without electricity, Aguas do Ribatejo (Arkansas) reported on Saturday.
AR “gradually restored the water supply after E-REDES repaired a fault early Friday evening that left without power the entire water supply system of Vale Tripeiro in Benavente, which supplies the parishes of Benavente and Zamora Correia,” in the district of Santarem, it said company message.
The station operated from the generator for several more hours, however, given the high water consumption, the alternative system was not enough to fully supply the affected facilities.
The power failure was caused by overheating of high-voltage cables and led to disruptions and interruptions in water supply in the cities of Benavente, Cutada Velha, Zamora Correia, Porto Alto and Arados in the Santarem district.
E-Redes replaced and tested all overheating cables and issued a fire warning, with the system being proactively shut down.
In the same statement, the AP and the Benavente City Council urge “customers and consumers to reduce consumption to strictly necessary levels so as not to jeopardize the supply and availability of water in case of emergencies such as fires.”
