AD National Representative for European Affairs Carlos Moedas said this Sunday that he was shocked to see that the PS is trying to label the Commission President of the European Union as far right, accusing the socialists of feeding on extremes.
The first time he joined the AD campaign during the official period, he was also president of the Lisbon city council, praising the different policy approaches of both the head of the AD list, Sebastian Bugalho, and the PSD/CDU-PP government in the first two months.
“When we do that, the PS creates a narrative of, ‘Oh no, we were the ones who thought of this, we were the ones who came up with this idea.’ The problem is that they didn’t. PS is today. we are the owners of what was not done, we are the owners of what we do,” he asserted.
In his speech, Moedas emphasized that Europe was created by moderates, and believed that the greatest internal danger today comes from extremes.
“It is the extreme left and right that do not believe in moderation. They are undermining Europe from within, which is why it is so important to maintain this moderation,” he said.
The mayor and former European Commissioner considered that “a terrible thing is happening in Portugal”, saying that “a moderate party such as the PS has gone into a deviation from polarization.”
“There is one thing that really shocked me about this campaign: the PS has pushed Ms von der Leyen to the extreme right. What a huge injustice against a moderate woman, a Christian Democrat, who has always fought for this moderation, what a huge injustice, big,” he criticized.
Like PSD Secretary General Hugo Soares on Saturday, Carlos Moedas also left the floor to the voters of Chega.
“I would like to give the floor to those who are dissatisfied, who say that they are tired of this and will vote for the extremes: parties like Chega, BE and PCP always vote together” in the European Parliament, he warned.
