The PS general secretary said this Wednesday that the approval of the socialist proposal to reduce the IRS shows that the government needs to have more dialogue and agree to parliamentary negotiations.

“The government has not yet realized and does not want to admit that it has the same number of deputies as the PS, and that this means a concession,” he emphasized.

Regarding the accusations that this is a new alliance with Chega, Pedro Nuno Santos asked “not to attach too much importance to this kind of argument from AD.”

“Chega abstained on the SDP proposals and the PS proposals, and we are not negotiating with Chega. IL voted for the SDP proposals and voted for the PS proposals. What is the difference? The left voted against the government and voted for the PS proposals, and that is why the PS proposal passed,” he concluded.

The PS leader repeated the idea, which he has persistently defended, that his party does not determine “the direction of the voting of other parliamentary groups” and does not refuse “to present proposals because there is a risk of their approval.”

The votes against PS, PCP, BE and Livre, as well as Chegi’s abstention, today determined the lead in the new IRS rate table proposed by PSD and CDS-PP.

On the other hand, deputies of the Budget and Finance Committee today approved the proposal of the PS to reduce IRS rates to level 6, but maintaining rates for subsequent levels.
