An Israeli court has extended the broadcast ban on Al Jazeera for another 45 days.

An Israeli court this Wednesday extended for another 45 days the broadcast ban on Al Jazeera under a law restricting the activities of foreign media outlets deemed “hostile.”

The court accepted the petition filed by Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and confirmed the closure of the Qatari network’s offices, as well as the blocking of its website and the confiscation of all systems and equipment, The Jerusalem Post reported.

In its decision, the court noted that authorities presented “compelling and clear evidence” of “a close connection between the terrorist organization Hamas and Al Jazeera,” The Times of Israel reported.

The court said the broadcasts included “incitement” and “real-time descriptions of army positions.”

On May 5, Israeli authorities banned the channel from broadcasting in Israel on the grounds of inciting attacks on state security and acting as a “propaganda” organ for the Islamist movement Hamas, under the aforementioned legislation. approved in April by the Israeli parliament (Knesset).

Competent Israeli authorities – both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Communications – have the power to order the closure of foreign media outlets operating in Israel, as well as confiscate their equipment, if they cause “real harm to the security of the state.”
