The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) approved this Wednesday a vote of praise for the Board of Arbitration and the team of Arthur Soares Dias that presided over the European Conference League final, a federation source told Lusa.
Arthur Soares Dias officiated the game between Olympiacos and Fiorentina, which the Greeks won 1-0 after extra time, with Paulo Soares and Pedro Ribeiro as assistants and Thiago Martins as video referee (VAR).
The 2023/24 European Conference League decider was the fifth European final in a club competition with Portuguese referees, after Antonio Garrido and Pedro Proenca officiated the 1979/80 and 2011/12 Champions League respectively, with Vitor Pereira officiating. final of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup and 2001 European Super Cup.
The praise of the Arbitration Council, which is chaired by Fontelas Gomes, was justified by the work done over the past eight years in developing and establishing football, futsal and beach soccer referees in international competitions.
