In a message published on his social networks, the Prime Minister celebrates the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which is celebrated this Monday.
“We awaken the Portuguese spirit, which inspires us not to give up in the face of adversity and to fight for a better future. The Portuguese soul, which unites history and future, which unites ambitions and hopes,” he said.

“The country we are building is all of this: its dignity, its merit, its justice, its education, its knowledge, its health, its housing and its regulated immigration,” he said.
And he added: “This is the economy, this is a social lift, this is the middle class and higher wages. And this is solidarity between generations, more opportunities for young people, appreciation for those who work, and gratitude for retirees.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that this is being done “in conditions of democracy, tolerance and diversity.”
Montenegro stated that the celebration of “Portugal Day” unites all Portuguese “from north to south, on the continent, in the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira, and in a special way”, the entire Portuguese community, which is spread abroad. to the four cardinal directions.”

This year, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, decided to celebrate the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese communities in three municipalities of the Leiria district affected by the 2017 fires: Pedrogão Grande, Figueiro dos Vinhos and Castanheira de Pera.
The official June 10 celebrations, which began on Sunday, the day of the European Parliament elections, will also take place at the University of Coimbra, where the opening ceremony of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões will take place.
