This was not a massive defeat. There were actually thirteen hands full of heads. Portugal beat the United Arab Emirates 65-0 on Tuesday at the University Futsal World Cup in Shanghai, China.
Among the top scorers in the match (in which 11 different athletes scored) were Rodrigo Lemos and Samuel Marquez, both of whom scored nine goals.
“All the players were serious and had a lot of respect for the UAE team,” said Bebe, the national coach.
The impressive result represents the heaviest defeat in the history of the competition and Portugal’s biggest victory in the history of the sport.
To the surprise of many, this difference is not the biggest victory in the history of sports. This record belongs to Brazil, which beat Timor-Leste with a score of… 76-0 at the 2006 Lusofonia Games.
