Microsoft admits mistakes that allowed Chinese cyberattack on US leaders

Microsoft President Brad Smith has acknowledged the North American tech giant’s responsibility for “cybersecurity deficiencies” that allowed Chinese hackers to access the emails of US government officials.

In April, the Cyber Security Review Board (CSRB), which operates under the auspices of the US Department of Homeland Security, said in a report that the intrusion on Microsoft servers was due to a “cascade of preventable company errors.”

“Microsoft accepts responsibility for all issues mentioned in the CSRB report. Without ambiguity or hesitation. And without any sense of defensiveness,” Smith told the House Homeland Security Committee on Thursday.
