Pollen concentrations in the atmosphere register moderate to high risk values for allergy patients from this Friday until June 20, reports the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC).
The Trás os Montes, Alto Douro, Entre Douro, Minho and Algarve regions are expected to experience a moderate risk, while the Centro and Alentejo regions may experience a high risk.
“In the Azores archipelago, pollen concentrations will reach a moderate risk, while in the Madeira archipelago, pollen concentrations remain low,” SPAIC said in a statement.
He added that rainy days are expected throughout the week, “with greater frequency in the northern regions of the country”, so due to the “atmospheric wash-off” effect, pollen concentrations are expected to remain low on these days. .
Regarding the origin of pollen grains, the most prominent in the continent’s atmosphere are grasses and urticaria (including parietaria), “which in some regions of the country reach high risk values for patients with allergies to these pollens.” those of olive, chestnut, cork and oak, as well as of “the herbs plantain, nettle, sorrel, marihuana and bredo”.
In the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, atmospheric pollen comes from eucalyptus, pine and cypress trees (Cryptomeria and chestnut trees in the Azores), as well as nettle grasses (including parietaria), nettle, plantain and grasses, as predicted in Pollen.
