The Danish men’s national football team this Friday rejected a salary increase and a 15% reduction in insurance coverage to guarantee equal working conditions with the women’s team.
The new agreement between the federation and the qualifying tournament will come into force after Euro 2024 in Germany and will last until 2028, with male and female national team players receiving the same amount for representing their country.
The new agreement includes no pay increase for men, who agreed to cut coverage by 15% to increase coverage for women by 50%.
“This is an outstanding step to improve conditions for women’s teams,” Danish players’ union director Michael Sahl Hansen said as quoted in the FIFPro statement.
According to the same source, the men who signed include names such as Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Simon Kjaer, leading figures in Danish football who wanted to “take responsibility” and “provide better opportunities and conditions for other teams.” .
