Montenegro says many people who gave PS an absolute majority ‘are now sorry’

The PSD president said this Thursday that many of the people who gave the PS an absolute majority in the legislative elections “already today regret” the “lack of governmental capacity” of the executive branch headed by António Costa.

Luis Montenegro, who spoke at a dinner with militants and supporters in Pingel, Guarda, as part of the “Sentir Portugal” initiative, said he respected the Portuguese who “gave PS a great opportunity”, but admitted that “many of these people are already regretting today” .

“I respect everyone. I respect all politicians and all parties, and above all I respect all the Portuguese who went to vote in the last elections and who gave PS a great opportunity. I respect the people and I won’t tell you that the people made a mistake when they voted in January 2022,” he said.

And he continued: “Now I want to tell you, and I have no right to be mistaken, that many of these people are already regretting this today, because they have many reasons to be disappointed, disappointed, with the lack of government capacity and with social the insensitivity of the government we have in Portugal.”

In his speech, he mentioned several problems that currently exist in the country and that Portugal is suffering from a problem that “has to be attacked head-on” due to European regulations.

“We have already understood that Dr. António Costa and PS are either not aware of its existence, which I do not believe, or they do not have the political will to solve it. We in Portugal are more papists than the Pope,” he said.

He added that the European rules are “sometimes already confusing” and “sometimes they go too far in regulation, but the Portuguese government always has to use the hands of the PS to set more rules, more confusion, more bureaucracy, so that people cannot take what what is legal”, that is, to take advantage of the means that Europe provides Portugal in order to move closer to more developed countries.

“That is why today we are falling further and further behind Europe. That is why the countries of the East are growing two, three, four and five times more than we are. ours and who are getting closer to Europe much more than we are,” Montenegro said at the dinner, which, according to the party, brought together about 500 SDP fighters and supporters from the Guarda region.

The SDP leader also said he was honored to have a “great army” with him, given the support he received from the people he came into contact with.

“I will continue to feel Portugal. I will travel to all regions of the country and talk to as many people as possible,” he assured.

He subsequently quoted Sá Carneiro and said, “We started out with few of us, today we are many, tomorrow we will be millions.” There will indeed be millions of us. We are going to leave them here on this earth. ours so that they do not have to emigrate in search of better conditions.

At the same dinner, SDP President Carlos Condesso predicted that “the Portuguese people will bring Luis Montenegro and the SDP a great victory.”

Rui Ventura, leader of the SDP council in Pingel and mayor, said he thought the country would have a new prime minister “whose name is Luis Montenegro” who “wants only and only to serve his country.”
